West Central Nebraska Area on Aging

A senior service center is a community focal point where older persons can meet together, access a variety of services and participate in activities that will enhance dignity, support independence and encourage involvement in the community. In addition senior service centers offer the following services:

Types of Services Available

Information and Assistance Services

Senior Centers are an integral part of a much larger caring human service system. The center provides access to information, advocacy, and co-ordination with other service providers within the network. Center staff is knowledgeable and willing to assist.

Nutritious Meals

Each center offers hot, nutritionally-balanced meals, five days a week for those aged 60 and over.

Home-Delivered Meals

Meals can be delivered to homebound individuals who are unable to prepare regular meals because of illness, injury, or disability. Not all sites provide home-delivered meals.

Activities

A wide variety of planned events are offered. Many centers have health education activities including blood pressure screening, foot clinics, exercise, and strength training classes.

* Traditional activities including crafts, holiday parties, trips, pool playing and tournaments, dances, bingo, and card parties. Most centers offer quilting and a wide variety of educational programs.
